Correct vault door installation is essential to ensure proper operation, structural stability and the expected level of physical security.
Vault doors are designed to protect access to vault rooms, high-security areas, bunkers and other protected facilities. Their installation therefore requires accurate positioning, structural anchoring and careful alignment.

Preparing the wall opening
Before installing the vault door, the wall opening must be correctly prepared.
As an installation reference, approximately 5 cm of clearance should be left on both sides and at the top of the door.
The dimensions and geometry of the opening should always be checked before positioning the door.
Positioning and anchoring the vault door
Place the vault door inside the opening and secure it to the surrounding structure.
The door can be fixed using anchors or solid steel bars welded to the door structure, providing a strong connection between the frame and the wall.
Horizontal and vertical levelling
Before proceeding, carefully check that the vault door is level both horizontally and vertically.
Accurate alignment is important for correct movement of the door leaf and operation of the locking mechanism.
Installing spacers
Once the door has been correctly positioned, insert 2–4 mm spacers into the gaps between the door leaf and the frame.
Spacers should be positioned at the bottom, sides and top of the door.
They help maintain the correct clearances while the surrounding concrete is installed and cured.
Concrete filling
Fill the perimeter gap between the vault door and the wall with concrete.
This integrates the door structure into the surrounding construction.
Timber supports can be positioned around the door to retain and support the concrete during this stage.
Allow the concrete to cure
After concreting, sufficient curing time must be allowed.
The Arcas Gruber installation guide specifies a reference curing period of 3 days before opening the door.
During installation, the door should remain closed with the spacers in position.
Final inspection
Once the concrete has cured, open the vault door and verify:
- correct opening and closing;
- correct operation of the locking mechanism;
- door alignment;
- overall condition of the installation.
Installation should always be carried out by qualified personnel, taking into account the characteristics of the door, the construction project and applicable local regulations.
